Red Mitsubishi Lancer owned by Tyrell

Tyrell's Mitsubishi

It’s been a little while since our last build breakdown (yes we said the same thing last time...) – our fault. We’ve been buried under a few things, sorting stuff out, you know how it is. But, we’re back with a bang and as our last article was Subaru (read here if you haven’t already), it seems only fitting that the next on is a Mitsubishi.

If you’re following us on Instagram (if not you can be clicking here) you’ve definitely seen this on our stories, our posts, etc – it’s got our best-selling sticker on the front so we’ve gotta show our appreciation and share it as often as we can.

This red Mitsubishi Lancer belongs to Tyrell, and it’s gone quite the transformation in 5+ years that he’s owned it. Tyrell grew up like most us, playing with Hot Wheels (some of us still do, and that’s totally okay… No self-confessions here…) on that old school car mat that every boy had, building our little car collection in the hope that one day we’d have a massive garage with a life size collection.

“I still have my original hot wheels cars and RC cars from when I was younger. Unfortunately we got rid our car mat when I last moved house, not that I would still use it…”

Tyrell started a with a Pug 206 and then a Hyundai Coupe before finally going Jap with the Lancer. “The joys of owning a Pug with a 1.6 sized engine. The first year was crazy expensive the insurance was almost x5 the car value”. I HEAR YOU, first year insurance on my Yaris T-Sport 1.5 was over £2500... What else are student loans for, right? Tyrell works in insurance, hoping that one day he can use his benefits to get some ultra low premium rates – hit us up when you do.

The Hyundai Coupe was “literally run into the ground”, after a self-diagnosis revelled that car was only firing on 3 pistons – Hyundai things. It also then developed an electrical issue so Tyrell made the smart move to get rid for spares and fork out on something a little bit better.

The Mitsubishi was purchased from Litchfield with low millage at a great price, what’s not to love already? It could be argued that it's a diesel but when you’re doing upwards of 15000 miles in a year, you gotta be smart and save your coin for much better things, like car modifications. Still to this day people are shocked that my car is a diesel and a non-evolution model”. The car was bone stock when it was picked up – that didn’t last long. Who doesn’t love a good before and after pic?

Before and after of modified Mitsubishi Lancer owned by Tyrell

Luckily Tyrell studied mechanics at college, so most of the modifications were done by the big man himself. A big brake kit on the front starts the build with an additional uprated clutch, rear strut and BC Coilovers. More performance modifications include the deletion of the EGR, a Darkside intercooler, Ramair air filter, 3” turbo back exhaust (with dual exits) a hybrid turbo good for 240-260BHP and a tune from Celtic Tuning bringing the car to a steady 232BHP and 381ftlb torque.

The Mitsubishi sits on 18” Avantgarde AVA HS-247 Phoenix alloys. You noticed the front end? That’s right, it’s an EVO X front end swap with a FQ360 splitter and some Hella Horns to add that extra flex on the front. On the side Tyrell has side skirt extensions and wind deflectors, with a custom diffuser on the rear. The interior has had some love too with the upgraded Evo X front seats being swapped in for the stock ones.

“My favourite thing about the car are the overall looks, when it’s clean it the colour pops real good”

Any future plans for the Mitsubishi Tyrell? Wide-body would be a dream and more power baby” - that’s the right answer. Of course we always ask if you didn’t have your current car, what would you like to have, Tyrell has gone straight in with the very sensible E36, “for the skids”.
