An absolute beauty! On todays feature we take a closer look at Kev’s iconic Mitsubishi Evo VII GSR. Kev imported the car from Japan in 2016/2017, “and It’s been evolving ever since”. Having had to sell his 1982 Mitsubishi Lancer EX Turbo - “granddaddy of the Evo...” - due to an expanding family, Kev rekindled his interest and desire in owning another Mitsubishi Evo when he was able to afford it. To say this car has had some serious time and money spent on it would be an understatement.

“I’ve spent more money modding it than I did buying it... But that’s really easy with these cars.”

In April 2018, the car was fully wrapped in an eye-catching 3M cinder spark red, which looks to be the perfect choice of colour. At the same time, the brake callipers were refurbished, windows were tinted and the rear bumper was replaced to Evo IX version with rear diffuser to complete the look. Then only a few months later Kev added a HKS Kansei style carbon front lip, side skirts and rear spats. The final result is incredible and would leave any car enthusiast speechless. It doesn’t stop there…

Over time a few more exterior and interior modifications took place including a C-West bonnet, carbon air ducts and hood dampers, tinted front and rear lights and gloss black trim. Some of the interior modifications include an Evo 9 Momo wheel, AEM X series gauges, front Recaro seats lowered, 30mm and a gloss black interior trim to match the exterior.

Kev has the Evo sitting pretty on Greddy coilovers with Hyper Zero 1 - 18 x 9 ET30, with EBC grooved discs tucked behind the wheels. There are a tonne of other upgrades to improve the handling including a Whiteline rear ARB, Cusco front and rear strut braces as well as a Cusco front power brace.

At the beginning of the year the Evo was in APT Norwich for an engine rebuild and new synchros in the gearbox, “this was pretty extensive and took just over a month to complete”. The full list of engine, exhaust and clutch upgrades include (get ready): Wiseco HD forged pistons, Oliver i beam rods, Kings main bearings, 266 GT cams, 1000cc iD injectors, Owens developments 80 series turbo, AMS plug cover, Titanium oil cap, ND fabrications tubular manifold, Tomei expreme 3” turbo elbow, 3” Trust stainless steel, exhaust with 4.5” exit, Motec M800 ECU running speed density, K&N induction kit, Mishimoto alloy radiator, Mishimoto radiator hoses, Titanium radiator brackets, ETS 3” Intercooler and hard pipe kit, Tial BOV, JMF Small battery kit, TT racing catch can, Standard 5 speed gearbox, RTS organic clutch with lightened flywheel.

“The end result is a very drivable car with 422 bhp and 400 lb/ft of torque.”

Plans for the future include an under body restoration, more powder coating underneath and the replacement of old bolts to zinc ones. Anything else? “I’d also like to find a leather interior for it.”

That wraps up this feature and we’d like to say a big thank you to Kev for giving us his time. Make sure to head to his Instagram to check out his Mitsubishi Evo VII GSR in full.
