Building cars for the hell of it and generally not giving a toss about what anyone thinks, usually result in outrageous builds that leave jaws on the floor. If you ask your Honda nut’s, most will agree that the S2000 is seen as one of the greatest sports cars that Honda ever made (behind the NSX, although technically that’s a supercar so go figure…) and it’s easy to see why - we can think of 9,000 reasons to get an S2000… If you know, you know…

It could have been a very different story though. Although always wanting an S2000 - “since I saw one in the first fast and furious” – Benjamin was in the market for a boosted DC5 at the time when this little beauty came on the radar, “to my surprise it was local and owned by a guy I knew”.

“I’ve owned the car for just over a year now. It was the perfect base car for an awesome build. Dry stored its whole life, 1 former keeper and very well maintained”. Sounds like you should have brought a lottery ticket with that luck? Owning the car for just a year and getting it to where it is, is quite the accomplishment – especially given all the COVID malarkey that’s been about… So other than looking completely outrageous with about as much carbon fibre as what you’d expect to see on an F1 car, what else has Benjamin done?

Supercharge it of course! The car has had some major surgery in the form of fitting a HKS GT2 supercharger which pushes the car to an extremely healthy 400hp figure, making a 1200kg+ even quicker. That’s not all though, parts from AEM include a standalone ECU and a 340-fuel pump additionally the car has a HKS intercooler and pipework. A TiAL Q blow off valve - the Q stands for quiet - not that it’d be heard over the full decat exhaust system from Fujitsubo anyways. More engine upgrades include a Mushimoto oil cooler and oil catch tank, upgraded engine head, ARP head bolts, ACL race bearings, titanium valve springs, new OEM seals and a Toda chain tensioner.
Time to get break down the exterior – it’s wider and we love it – where to start… To get it wider, Benjamin has installed Circuit Garage FRP rear arches and Circuit Garage carbon front arches, and it looks incredible – the fitment is just right with the 3-way BC coilovers – not too low so you don’t lose any essential parts on the local council’s speed bumps and potholes. More carbon fibre additions (there are a lot) include RX7 carbon side skirts, Seibon CSL style carbon boot with a built in ducktail spoiler (keeping it Looney), Seibon carbon bonnet and to finish off the aggressive front end, a Voltex carbon front bumper. The headlights have also been converted to the AP2 model S2000 and DEPO LED taillights have been added on the rear along, with Aero R Spec corner spats. And the cherry on top of this extensive exterior is the gorgeous Atlantis metallic blue repaint from the 2018 M3 F80 – very tasty.

Let’s not forget about the S2000’s 18” Rota XXR’s (wrapped in AD08 tyres) too, or the fact that it’s had a big brake upgrade from K Sport with 8 pot callipers and floating discs. Benjamin also went through to the trouble of adding Hardrace braces, upper and lower, front and back, as well as Hardrace arms, front and back too.

It is blatantly obvious that a lot of time and effort has gone into this build, so you can guarantee that the interior has had some work done too in the form of plastic trimming being repainted to Piano Black (very classy), Sparco Pro seats and wheel, on Buddyclub rails and Momo boss kit. The cluster surrounding controls have also been upgraded to Qube engineering clusters with the addition of the triple gauge pod, holding a AEM AFR gauge, Greddy oil pressure and temp gauge and a Greddy boost gauge.

“My favourite thing is without a doubt the supercharger, its a completely different car and my god makes your blood pump”. I’m not sure we could pick a favourite thing as it’s all incredibly impressive, but we’d welcome taking it out for a spin so we can make our minds up… Just the once perhaps..? No? We don’t blame you either…
Anyways, with all this work you’re probably wondering what’s left to be tampered with? Almost every aspect of this car has been modified in some way, but of course Benjamin isn’t finished just yet - “I plan to repaint all the engine bay, repaint the block, head and gearbox in a nice bright silver. Powdercoat both the front and rear subframes and replace all the bushes through next winter”.

We love to see passionate builds like this, it’s clear Benjamin is a bit of a speed freak and knows what he’s doing, but having worked on cars from a young age with a mechanic as a father would do that you - the experience in working as a BMW panel tech from the age of 16 probably helps too. We imagine it’s also useful for those ‘running out of talent’ moments, not that it’s ever happened to us… Don’t expect to see Benjamin working on anything electric soon though, being a true motor head at heart – “Electronic cars for me and a no go. Its the performance and noise that makes these cars!”.

So, if you didn’t have the S2000, what would be your dream car? “A skyline r34 GTR. V spec. The reason for this is for me it’s the most iconic jap car, even to this day it is absolutely stunning. There’s no other car on this planet with such beautiful shape and lines” – we agree 100%. Let us know below if you agree and how much you like Benjamin’s build.
